I am an assistant professor in the Psychiatry department at the University of Pennsylvania, working in the Center for Neuromodulation in Depression and Stress (CNDS). My background is in experimental psychology, and I have received extensive didactic and hands-on training in experimental design, psychophysiology, neuroimaging, and neuromodulation. While my background is using neuromodulation to understand and treat anxiety disorders, I have an active arm of my research program devoted to novel methods development. My basic approach is to use electric (e)-field modeling as a tool for 1) optimizing and individualizing targeting for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and 2) understanding how specific TMS protocols affect brain connectivity and ultimately behavior.
